How is Gilmour Juniors approaching remote learning?

Will my child be taught broadly the same curriculum as they would if they were in school?

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school.

How will work be set?

In order to set work we are using a number of different websites.

All work for the day will be set in Microsoft Teams - this will include a link to the instructional video and then a link to the activity. The activity, depending on the lesson focus, will either be on Frog Play or Maths Shed.

It is possible to access the quizzes without logging into teams, but if your child accesses the quiz without seeing the instructional video first the quiz may not make sense.

How long will assignments be available in Microsoft Teams?

All assignments will be available from the Monday of each week and then will be available for 6 days.

How long will it take my child to complete all of the assignments set each day?

We expect that remote education (Including viewing videos, independent work and feedback sessions) will take your child broadly four hours per day.

Broken down this is roughly:

1 hour English

1 hour Maths

1 hour foundation subjects

TT Rock Stars

Reading using MYON

Spelling homework using Spelling shed

Why do the children need to complete the quizzes in Frog Play and Maths Shed?

It is really important for us to know how your child is getting on with the work we have set. Using Frog Play and Maths Shed allows class teachers to see the scores your child is getting at they attempt each of the assignments. Lessons with the National Oak Academy do have quizzes at the end, but due to data protection reasons the school can't see these scores. That is why we have recreated the quizzes in Frog Play.
