In Autumn 1 year 3 study drawing. For examples of the expected standard please see below.
Mark Making
Understand the difference of the marks made by a variety of pencil types. (HB, 2B, 4B)
Effective use of pencils in a variety of ways showing control, tone, line, pattern and texture.
Sphere and Overlapping Sphere
Can draw simple circular shapes with some accuracy.
Can show an awareness of light and the shadows it creates to make the 2D shapes appear 3D.
Can begin to draw lines in the correct placement (lower closer/higher farther away) and size (larger closer/ smaller farther away) to appear farther away or closer.
Observational Drawing
Can draw simple circular shapes from observation with some accuracy.
Can begin to add texture to an object through the use of different pencils and mark making.
Can apply the skills from previous lessons to real life objects.
Cube and Hollow Cube
Can draw simple lines with some accuracy using reference lines as a guide.
Can show an awareness of foreshortening (distorting of objects) to create perspective.
Can show an awareness of tone to add texture, light and the shadows (cast/internal) it creates to make the 2D shapes appear 3D.
Stacking Tables and Cylinders
Can draw objects involving cuboids and cylinders with some accuracy applying the skills from previous lessons.
Final Piece
Can draw a still life arrangement applying the skills learnt from this topic: accurately drawn 3D shapes, a light source, shadows, beginnings to use texture and tone to add detail.
